Question

- We test the hypothesis H, : L = 239 vs. H, : p > 239 and did not reject H, for a = 0.10. If pu actually equals to 329, did we make a Type I error, Type II error or correct decision regarding H,? - We test the hypothesis Ho : p = 0.85 vs. Hi : p > 0.85 and reject H, for a = 0.01. If we change a to 0.10, will we reject H,? - We test the hypothesis H, : p = 100 vs. H, : 100 and did not reject H, for a = 0.01. If we construct a 99% confidence interval for the same pu, will it include the number 100?

Explanation / Answer

Solution-

A. When mean = 329 > 239 then null hypothesis is false and we still do not reject it.

then we made type 2 error.

C. Critical value for 1% level of significance = 2.326 if we reject the null hypothesis then test statistic must be greater than 2.326

Critical value at 10% level of significance = 1.28

Hence test statistic would obviously be greater than it and we will again reject the null hypothesis.

C. Yes it will contain 100 as we did not reject the null hypothesis and level of significance remains the same, then mean must not be different from 100.
