WHICH STUDY DESIGN AM I? To test the efficacy of a new pain relief therapy for patients with fibromyalgia, 750 patients who were in chronic pain from fibromyalgia were randomly assigned to placebo or treatment groups and instructed to take their respective tablets twice a day for two weeks. After two weeks, the patients were examined and compared for relief from pain and related factors such as sleep disturbance. Neither the patients participating in the study nor the doctors evaluating them were aware of their group assignments.
