A recent issue of the NEA magazine stated that the average vice principal salary for a school of similar size is $60,000. At the request of the Board of Education, the principal conducts his own survey of vice principar's salaries. His survey of 25 schools revealed an average salary or $72,000 and a standard deviation of $9,000. Perform a hypothesis test at a 5% significance level to test the magazine's o claim u a What is the appropriate sampling distribution to use? 13. b State the null and alternative hypotheses 15. sic State the decision rule at a significance level of 5% show all calculations s d lustrate all key numbers and areas on a graph e what decision should the school principal make? t What type of error can possibly be made with the decision in part (e)? s9 What is the value of the Maximum Toterable Error for this problem?Explanation / Answer
The test statistic used will be independent sample t-test as the sample mean is given.Using independent sample t-test,I found the test statistic to be 6.67 with the p-value being less than 0.05.Thus,we reject the null and accept the alternative hypothesis.
f)It might happen that in relaity the average vice principal salary for a school is $60,000.Since the relaity regarding null hypothesis is true but we get alternative hypothesis as true, therefore there is possibility of commiting Type I error.Hence ,Type I error can be possibly made.
g)The maximum allowable or tolerable error is the value of alpha(significance level) for this test which is 0.05.Thus,it ia acceptable to have a 5% probability of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis.
