Explanation / Answer

8.      The researchers wanted to know how the CI and non-CI groups compared on core language at the end of the study.

a. What inferential test should the researchers use? Why?

Question asked: Do groups ( CI and non-CI) differ on core language?

So we will be using 2 sample t-test for testing whether the means of the two group differ on their CL score.

b. What are the independent and dependent variables?

Independent variable: Cochlear implant and Non- Cochlear implant group

Dependent Variable: Core Language Score

C. Using the A-B-C-D format used in class, answer Drs. Trautwein and Ammerman’s research question.

Step A. Null hypothesis: Population mean scores of core language is same for CI and non-CI group.

Alternate Hypothesis: Population mean scores of core language is different for CI and non-CI group.

Step B. Level of significance: Alpha = 0.05

Step C. Test statistic

2 sample-t-test

I have used excel command T-test(CLS score CI group, CLS score Non-CI group,2,3)

2- Two-tailed t-test

3

Two-sample unequal variance (heteroscedastic)

Step D. Conclusion: Since the p-value is less than the level of significance. The result is significant and we reject the null hypothesis.

Thus we conclude that population means scores of Ci group is different from the non-CI group.

For question 7 the data for the normal group is not given. I am assuming the normal group is non-deaf.

3

Two-sample unequal variance (heteroscedastic)
