Question
What percentage of data would you predict would be between 40 and 70 and what percentage would you predict would be more than 70 miles? Subtract the probabilities found through NORM.DIST(70, mean, stdex, TRUE) and NORM.DIST(40, mean, stdey, TRUE) for the "between. probability. To get the probability of over 70, use the same-NORM DIST(70, mean, stdex. TRUE) and then subtract the result from 1 to get "more than". Now determine the percentage of data points in the dataset that fall within this range, using same strategy as above for counting data points in the data set. How do each of these compare with your prediction and why is there a difference? (15 points) 5. Predicted percentage between 40 and 70 Actual percentage Predicted percentage more than 70 miles Actual percentage Comparison Why?Explanation / Answer
Predicted percentage between 40 and 70 = 43.9272%
Actual percentage = 22.857%
Predicted percentage more than 70 miles = 23.0479%
Actual percentage = 37.14286%
Comparison = In case of the "between" probability, the actual percentage is much lower than the predicted percentage, whereas in case of the "more than" probability, the actual percentage is much higher than the predicted percentage.
Why ? = There is a huge difference between the actual and the predicted percentages. This is due to the fact that we are calculating the predicted probabilities using the sample mean and the sample standard deviation. Also, we are using the sample while determing the actual percentage. This, in turn, is creating the above-mentioned huge difference.
