Question

Consider a 4 sided die shaped like a triangle pryramid, with the numbers 1,2,3, and 4 marked on each side (one number per side). The number that appears on the bottom of the face of the die is recorded as the number rolled.

Whichh experimental result would provide the strongest support for the arguement that the die is fair?

1. in 10 tosses, the number 4 was rolled 3 times

2. in 100 tosses, the number 4 was rolled 8 time

3.. in 1000 tosses, the number 4 was rolled 111 times

4. in 10000 tosses, the number 4 was rolled 2489 times

Explanation / Answer

To be consider the pyramid is biased occuring each face value at same peobability. Here, probaility of appearing ang of the disgit in 1,2,3,4 is = 1/4 = 0.25 i.e probability of such experiment is the biased one

1)

P(Display 4) = 3/10 = 0.3

2)

P( DIplay 4) = 8/100 = 0.08

3)

P(Display 4) = 111/1000= 0.111

4)

P( Display 4 )=2489/10000 = 0.2489

Event 4 is nearest to the probability define biased, which is ~0.25
