A party punch bowl contains 4 quarts containing 50% 7-UP, and the host wants to change it to a 60% 7-UP solution. How much of the punch must be replaced with 7-UP to accomplish this task

Explanation / Answer

Let x, y and z be the number of 5$ , 10$ and 20$ bills.

Now, according to the question:

y = 5x and z = 2x + 4 ---------------------- equation one

Also, 5x + 10y + 20z = 1410 --------------------equation two

Using equation one in equation two, we get:

5x + 50x + 40x + 80 = 1410

x = 14

Therefore, number bills of different denominations are:

5$ = 14, 10$ = 70, 20$ = 32
