You are asked to measure exactly 7 ounces of water from a large tank using only a 5-ounce container and an 8-ounce container. How can you get exact amount of 7-oz water? Write steps. Hint: 1. The amount of water in the large tank is so large and you cannot measure; therefore you cannot use the large tank as a temporary container. 2. We have only one 8-oz-container and only one 5-oz container, which you can damp water as many as possible.

Explanation / Answer

Use 5 oz container to take exactly 5oz. Pour it in the bigger 8 oz container.

Repeat the same process again but now you will have 2 oz left out in the 5 oz container as 8 oz already had 5 now with 3 it became full. Hence the balance of 2 oz are left in the 5 oz container.

Pour this 2 oz in a fresh jar. Again take out 5 oz using the 5oz container and pour in the jar taken for pouring 2 oz.

Together 2 and 5 make 7 oz.
