Question

Can't figure out #11 a,b,c

10. (5 points). Fill in the table. 11. (5 points) Answer a. b. and c. a. (2 points) Look at the table above. Assume that at position 27 of the protein GEN, the amino acid in line 1 is found in wild type, but is replaced by the amino acid in line 2 in gen- mutants. Using the genetic code table. what would the RNA sequence look like in the wild type and mutant? b. (1 point) What is the designation for this type of mutation? c. (2 points) How might such a mutation affect the GEN protein?

Explanation / Answer

11 a. RNA sequence of Wild type GEN protein at 27th amino acid is UUU or UCC or UCA or UCG

RNA sequence of Mutant Arg GEN protein at 27th amino acid is CGU orCGC or CGA or CGG

b. One of the amino acid is replaced due to mistake in triplet codon sequence. Such mutations are termed as Missense mutation.

c. Due to the above mutation amino acid Serine is replaced by Arginine in GEN protein. Serine is an amino acid which acts as an active site to bring about enzymatic activity. Mutation of this amino acid might affect the enzymatic activity of GEN protein.
