Answer: Indra Nooyi has a contingency style of leadership where one can find a mix of various leadership styles like democratic, autocratic, and transformational and so on. She is the head of giant company which operates in several countries. The beverages industry has different type of situation in every country and she needs to adopt herself as per the situation she is in. She relates to her people and frequently communicates with them through letters and even goes to the extent of writing letters to their parents about their achievements. She is managing her company in 21st century where human relations and cultural difference play a vital role in motivating the people. The business situation is different in each region of operation and the contingency style of leadership has made her effective and took her to the top position in Pepsico.
Henry ford operated in a different time period of the early 20th and automobile industry. He demonstrated a transactional style of leadership in which he used his emotional intelligence for motivating the people through various rewards. He managed the Ford motor company and strongly believed that values played a pivotal role in the success of an individual. He was autocratic at times which was required in order to manage a company where assembly line required that repetitive was carried out without much deviation. Just like Indra Noyi he was also a successful leader and motivated his people and made Ford a global brand. Under his able leadership he was able to develop innovation inside the organization with over 100 patents in his own name. He led his people by example.
Both these leaders were equally effective and successful as they both offered a good leadership in different type of era. They had great achievements and made their companies successful despite of tough competition at the marketplace and promoted innovation inside the organization. .
