Question

give 3-5 sentences of thoughts

Many states have the option to sentence convicted murderers to life in prison without parole, there are currently over 121 people in the state of Oregon who have received this sentence according to Oregonians for Alternatives to The Death Penalty. I believe the Death Penalty should be illegal. Since the reinstatement of the death penalty in the United States in 1976, 138 innocent men and women have been released from death row, including some who came within minutes of execution. In Missouri, Texas and Virginia investigations have been opened to determine if those states executed innocent men. To execute an innocent person is morally reprehensible; this is a risk we cannot take. In fact, in the ppt provided by our professor there were so many interesting cases were victims/witnesses where pressured by cops and just accused someone who was innocent. It is also a proven fact that those who kill whites are more likely to be sentenced to die than those who kill minorities which is a form of racism.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center County estimates in Texas indicate that the death penalty system is much more expensive than sentencing inmates to life imprisonment. Gray County spent nearly $1 million seeking the death penalty against Levi King, even though he pleaded guilty to murder. Moreover, these costs do not include the cost of appeals, which will further increase the cost of the capital case, nor the costs of cases in which the death penalty is sought but not given. By comparison, a non-death penalty murder case in nearby Lubbock County typically costs about $3,000, court officials estimate. The average cost to house an inmate in Texas prisons is $47.50 per day, according to Michelle Lyons, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. it would cost about $17,340 to house an inmate for a year and $693,500 for 40 years, far less than even part of the death penalty costs. The regional public defender's office estimates that just the legal costs for a death penalty case from indictment to execution are $1.2 million. Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Matt Powell said, “I don't dispute that it's more expensive, but said he never takes cost into account when deciding whether to seek the death penalty.

Many schools are cutting out feeding kids breakfast in school in fact they are staring to make more people pay for school lunches. Many parents do not have enough money feed their children. The Texas Tribune stated this summer that "Superintendents in hundreds of Texas school districts rely on a pot of state funds that expires in September. Without drastic cost-saving measures, some districts are worried they may have to shut down." Schools all over India and China invest in their young ones and provide different new technology in there every day learning which has caused a huge gap between u and them. In school they get them involved with science and engineering and that is why many engineers and scientist are brought as forgivers because here in the U.S. children are not intrasted. Instead of learning in school it is more like a day care because kids are not really leaning we just went because we were told to do so. The learning environment in other countries are so different there here n the U.S. and I blame the government for how they fund the schools and how they use money on ther unnecessary things.

The DP is illegal for the fact that many people are killed being innocent! People get sent to jail for stealing an apple for their starving child and get sentenced years in jail, what happens to an officer that pressures a victim that just went through a traumatic event in their life to confess on what they witnessed. Imagine just seeing your mother being killed and not even an hour has passed by when officers are asking you questions who did it? What did you see? Asking you to come in to there office or even them coming to your house every day. Brining in different people. Wanting you just to say so and so did it to give them the DP is outrageous and wrong. Even we even considered the DP it is not equally enforced throughout races like many things here in the U.S. even if we do not believe there is still a thing such as "White Privilege" and we see it through history with who and who doesn't get sentenced to death.

Explanation / Answer

The death penalty should not be made illegal as it acts as a deterrent. Countries that have the death penalty have lower crime rates. The system should be improved to make the trails more transparent by the video recording of the trial proceedings. Instead of changing the system and making it fair adopting a path which will compromise the justice is not a good solution.
