Ontario Chilhood Neglect index(CNI) is an index used to diagnose and know the severity of Childhood neglect.
Though its a good tool to define neglect an important limitation of this instrument is that its is based on laws prevalent in Ontario only. The definitions of few components have been adapted from legal definitions in that jurisdiction only.
For eg. : Educational neglect does not hold a parent responsible for Truancy in CNI and only non-provision of educational needs/remedial needs is given importance.
Such definitions need to be included/modified to make it applicable to other areas and more sceintifically sound.
