Prejudice is a negative attitude toward people who belong to a specific social group. It is ultimately based on the exaggerated notion that members of other social groups are very different from members of our own social group. Prejudices arise as a result of pre conceived notions that people might have been having as a result of what they have heard about a particular person or a race or a culture, without coming into direct contact with those people. What is sad over hear is people make judgements about a person from where the hail from rather really interacting with the person and getting to know him as a complete being.,
Prejudices may be as a result of a number of pre coney dived notions, and may not necessarily be only related to race or culture from where a person comes. Yes, it is true that people from different cultures do have different thought processes and value systems, but this does not mean that they are necessarily bad. No human is bad or should be branded as negative without his actions making him fall into that category m and prejudice does the same thing, branding people.
People within cultures tend to be similar in the ways they might respond to a particular situation. This is what originates prejudices. Since people amongst the same cultures have similar behaviours, this leads an impression formation that drives the idea that a particular race or culture is violent or some people of a culture may be geeky, for example, it is thought that hispanics and blacks may be violent whereas Asians or Indians are geeky. Since a culture or upbringing is driven by imitating or modeling, when a person comes from a particular culture, this modeled behaviour is only considered to be their primary characteristic.
It is true that differences that may exist between members of different racial and ethnic groups are far smaller than differences among various members of the same group. This is what happens in the practical world. People coming from the same background tend to have more differences and these differences are not as minor as the way in which a person is behaving, but these differences may be due to difference in opinions or contradiction or the rise to come up to power and become the dominant self in the society or the revolt against the norms that already prevail in a culture. Moreover, the problems of self esteem and ego.
Such problems are not present between members of different racial groups. When there might be differenceof opinions, these might be sorted out by debates or discussions. When entering into s different group, the tendency to accept a norm is greater as it seems to be different, and at that time, seems to be more logical. Among cultures, the differences do not exist, such as social problems. People do get frustrated of the norms that are already prevailing in a society, which they would want to break through, but the maximum problems that might appear with people of another culture is rooting tnie ways. Unless, interactions are covered with negative pre conceived thoughts, we would not take the opinions of other people in a complete negative spirit and things could be sorted more easily. Hence, I do agree that that may exist between members of different racial and ethnic groups are far smaller than differences among various members of the same group.
