Team charter gives direction and responsibilities for each and every team member who are part of the project. The team charter helps to understand the duties and importance of working together so that few team members are not overshadowed and feel demotivated that others are taking charge of the work. All team members should make sure that they play a very important part in the task. They should cover the following information such as
Responsibilities of each team member: - The team charter should cover responsibilities of each team member.
Purpose – Reason for working as a team. It gives a sense of Direction on how to go about.
Team members- The number of team members their background etc. should be listed.
Duration: Time frame should be mentioned. Target time to complete the task
Supporting resources- Any external resources used as referral can be given
Social loafing is very common thing that happens while working as a team. Social loafing means the team members resort to not putting effort to accomplish task. So when they work in a group they are less responsible. It happened when few members take charge, some members lack responsibility to contribute sometimes. Sometimes team member lack team spirit to work together, as some values individual efforts and takes pride leaving others feeling hurt. Social loafing can be prevented by Firstly, by keeping the group small so that each one has an important role to play. Secondly, understanding the boundaries or target time frame of each responsibility. This helps to make them accountable of the responsibility of the task at hand .Thirdly by improving group cohesiveness by social and emotional bonding helps in making a great team. By introducing one another, having conversation helps in building team spirit.
Group development process witness lots of challenges like poor listening, low spirit among team members, conflict of interest etc.
By open communication, making the team small and flexible, collaborating, resolving chaos, giving autonomy, timely coaching and feedback can improve the performance.
