learnumuc.edu PSYC 301 6385 Twitter. Ir's what's h (474 unread)- er D) Eye blinks. E) All of the above. 18) Sound can best be thought of as our ear's response to: A) Changes in air pressure produced by the vibration of an object. B) Compression of air molecules by an object. C) Waves of acoustic energy that travel at fewer than 20 miles per hour. D) Packets of energy E) Expansion of air molecules produced by a traveling object. 19) Which of the following pairs of terms do NOT belong together? A) amplitude; pitch B) complexity; timbre C) frequency; pitch D) amplitude; loudness E) hue; wavelength

Explanation / Answer

19. Answer: A) amplitude; pitch

Amplitude is the maximum displacement that would occur in when a point moves on a body that is vibrating or a wave when measured from its equilibrium position. Whereas pitch of the sound is detected by the frequency.

18. Answer: A) changes in air pressure produced by the vibration of an object.

The ear would detect sound waves that come from vibrating objects. These vibrating objects would cause the molecules of air to crash in to one another and result in production of sound waves. These waves travel through various mediums such as the water or air and it would result in pressure changes with response to these mediums that would be detected by the ear.
