Question

In cases such as the Assassination of Benazir Bhutto, where initially there is little solid evidence and much speculation, it is particularly important to cast the net wide to make sure that nothing is excluded. This is especially so because the Pakistani government immediately leaped to a conclusion, blaming the so-called Pakistani Taliban operating in Pakistan’s tribal belt. Although the hypothesis offered by the Pakistani government appears credible, the more important question is whether it is the only hypothesis worth considering. From your reading and research what other hypothesis are worth considering and why?

Explanation / Answer

The other hypothesis that is worth considering is: a probe into the role of then President of Pakistan and other senior officials of Pakistan in Mrs. Bhutto's assassination. The then President and many officials had secret ties with the heads of the militants, Mrs. Bhutto was a major rival to the President and shared a bitter political relation with the President. The other reason is the haste that Government made to conclude the reasons for Mrs.Bhutto's assassination before the actual report came out to support this hypothesis.
