Explanation / Answer
Whole Foods:
Whole Foods organization culture’s unique aspects is its commitment to respect the local culture. Every store has its own unique culture so there are several micro-cultures within the organization. They reflect the place and community.
Local culture is emphasized both in its hiring and in its products. They try hard to make their customers to find local culture deep-rooted with themselves. They have issued “Core Principles” that highlight employee happiness and contentment, along with their commitment to sell highest quality organic products. Their mission is to delight customers and employee happiness is implanted in it.
I say this because every store follows their own culture and they are focussed at providing best customer service and side-by-side taking care of employees needs and wants because you need to have both of them satisfied in order to become successful and a good place to work for.
Zappos:
Just like Whole Foods, Zappos also believes in giving employees freedom and inspiring them to just be themselves.
They are focused on customer service but employee’s happiness is equally important to them. When they hire people, they do two sets of interviews. The hiring manager checks for relevant experience, technical skills etc and but an HR department checks purely for culture fit in second round where they try to match a candidate’s personal values with their corporate values. They ask people to get paid and leave if they do not fit the culture.
