1.   Reasoned Action Model theory suggests that one’s behaviour is determined by one’s attitude or belief. This attitude determines one’s intention to perform the behaviour. So the voting behaviour will be determined by the belief system and the attitude of the voters towards the stem cell research. If they believe that the stem cell research is going to help human race, they will vote for it or they will vote against it. Advertisements definitely influence the behaviour of people and these two supporting and opposing advertisements will influence the decisions of the voters.

2.   Balance theory proposes cognitive consistency motive as a drive towards psychological balance. It’s about maintaining one’s values and beliefs over time. All the three friends stick to their points of supporting and opposing embryonic research. It’s about the consistency of their beliefs that matters a lot. There are also chances that any one of them or all three of them might change their stand as time pass by because attitudes and beliefs change.

3.   Cognitive Dissonance occurs when a person is caught in conflict between their attitudes and beliefs. It happens when one’s actions go against one’s beliefs and attitudes. In this example, Terry and Maria are prone to cognitive dissonance but Maria is the one who will be affected the most as her writing will be shown to school children. They have new information that collide with their existing beliefs, they are forced act on something which they don’t belief, they adjust their beliefs to suit the situation and they have reduced the importance of the previously held belief. Kelly will be affected by over justification effect as she is paid for the writing and her internal motivation might have ended with the monetary reward. It is justified by Over justification theory which suggests that people work more for an external reward but less when there is no reward.
