Reflection statements generally increases your insights, it's about addressing a experience.

Open ended questions often helps in taking the conversation to a more descriptive level. The answers for open ended questions are generally more detailed rather than 'yes' 'no' types.

Let's take an example:

My conversation with my brother about his career in music.

The types of statements I should use here are as follows:

1) So how do you plan to go ahead with music?

2) Any plan about how you'll reach people?

3) What do you think worked the best for you when it comes to music?

4) The project you were working on, where do you think you did well?

Reflection questions do work well because a person looks back as to what he learned, where he needs to improve. They know better about their skills, strengths and weaknesses through reflection statements.
