Innovation in the automobile industry: A new age perspective Today is an exciting time to be a part of the automobile industry, even though the demands on the business have never been greater. Customer expectations of vehicle quality, reliability, safety, and utility are at an all-time high. At the same time, worldwide overcapacity has put pressure on the industry to maintain, and even reduce, vehicle price. Environmental concerns, including tailpipe emissions, carbon dioxide production, and recycling, remain critical elements on the manufacturer’s agenda. The intent of the innovation process is to ensure that a steady stream of product and technology options is developed on the basis of the company’s sense of where the market is headed. A developing technology called Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication, or V2V, is being tested by automotive manufacturers like Ford as a way to help reduce the amount of accidents on the road. These technologies could transform the way we drive and increase automotive safety dramatically. Good thing car companies and the government are already working to try to make this a reality.
