Question

question. Please limit your response to approximately 1 page, single spaced or 400 words. SELECT ONE: 3A. You are a new teacher at Oakwood Elementary School. You are in your first month of school and are struggling with classroom management. In the morning, students enter the classroom, put away their belongings, and start bell work (quick five minute math exercises during the morning bell) at their desks. It takes your students twenty minutes to put away their belongings and start their work (this delay is due to many reasons-students are chatting with others students are purposefully putting away their things slowly (to delay school workl), students are playing with items at their desk, etc.). Design a strategy to help solve this problem. Choose either Bandura's theory of observational learning or Skinner's theory of operant conditioning to create a strategy that you will implement in the upcoming week. Describe the undesired behavior, the desired behavior, and how your strategy will result in the desired behavioral outcome. Describe at jeast three challenges you might face during implementation. How will you overcome these challenges? 'Use Bandura's or Skinner's terminology in your description.

Explanation / Answer

Albert Bandura’s Observational learning theory suggests that children learn better by imitating and through social modeling. So, I’m going to record a video of other classes where students come on time, place their bags and get ready for the class without wasting time. I would say the expected behavior is be on time and starting the session on time by leaving the bags on time. One behavior which will not be accepted is talking and playing with others when the session starts.

This behavior will be reinforced by a reward. I would say if we start the sessions on time we could compete with the other classes and they would get an hour extra play time in a week. This way the students will imitate the behaviors of other classes and develop a competitive spirit. It would also be backed by the weekly reward of extra play time.

One of the challenges will be time. It would take some time for all the students to fall in line with the new behavior. The second challenge would be to bring the seriousness through the video and the final challenge will be to get permission for the reward play time.
