Explanation / Answer
Tim Gunn’s statement about the American revolution is interesting because it throws questions about the possibility of a countertruth about the war of independence being non-revolutionary. It is noteworthy that that American War of Independence did not represent a social revolution like the preceding French Revolution that sought to bring a radical transformation in society. However, the Revolution was based on the philosophy of Enlightenment that focused on replacing older forms of feudal social structure with the ideals of equality and freedom and establish republicanism and democracy. Moreover, the sheer expanse of the War in terms of the camaraderie between the peasants, the merchants, the labourers, academicians etc. made the war more than a mere armed struggle and galvanized the emotional and political aspect of the armed venture. Tim Gunn’s statement about the Revolution being fuel led by a win win sentiment is therefore appropriate for understanding the American Revolution. This seems to govern even the nationalist ideology in the present especially with regard to the global politics where the American population seeks a resort to a discourse of a unified front against issues such as global terrorism and natural calamity due to climat3 change.
