Explanation / Answer

Absolute deprivation refers to inability to meet with basic necessities. Absolute deprivation also refers to absolute poverty which means an individual is unable to make ends meet. A person is absolutely deprived when he cannot meet with his basic requirements like food, shelter, clothing and health care.

Relative deprivation on the other hand refers to when people compare themselves to others and feel that they are relatively deprived. Relative deprivation is only when a person feels deprived when they compare themselves to others. For instance, if you and your friend study together for an exam, you spend all the time together studying and know how much of the course has been covered by the both of you. However, when the result of the test is out, you find out that she scored better than you. This leads to feeling relative deprivation, where you feel worse because you both put the same amount of effort, but she did better.
