We said, "We want freedom no to stay at a male friend's apartment in New York, my aunts From "On Date Rape," by Camille Paglia chaperoned. As late as 1964, when I arrived in colleg womern we had strict rules. We and key by 11 o'clock. My generation was the one that more double standard! When I went flew into a firenzy: "You can't oi'sdangerous Sall, we understood in the '60s that we were taking a risk acknowledgethesisyoung womenwanttfreedoms that we won, you go to a bar to have a drink, there is a riski You have to accept but they don't want to out with a man, the minute risk. That's the problem The minute you go that sex comes ou can responsibility to be aware of the dangers of the deluded They come froma protected, white, So it is the woman's world. But these young feminists today are middle-class world, and they expect everything to be safe. Notice it's not black or Hispanic women who are making a fuss about this- -they come from cultures that are fully sexual and they arey realistic about sex. But these other women are sexually repressed girls, coming out of pampered homes, and when they arrive at these colleges and suddenly hit male lust, they go "Oh, no" These girls say, "Well, |should be able to get drunk at a fraternity party and go upstairs to a guy's room without anything happening" And I say, "Oh, really? And when you drive your car to New York City, do you leave your keys on the hood?" My point is that if your car is stolen after you do something like that, yes, the police should pursue the thief and he should be punished. But at the same time, the police-and I-have the right to say to you, "You stupid idiot, what the hell were you thinking?" I mean, wake up to reality. This is male sex Guess what, it's hot. Male sex is hot. There's an attraction between the sexes that we're not totally in control of The idea that we can regulate it by passing campus grievance committee rules is madness. My kind of feminism stresses personal responsibility. I've never been raped, but I've been very vigilant-Im constantly reading the signals. IF I ever got into a dating situation where T was overpowered and raped, I would say, "Oh well, I misread the signals" But I don't think I would ever press charges.Explanation / Answer
In the history, dating has emerged as one of the phenomenon which is very recent. Women had always been accompanied by people. In the 60s, there came a wave of freedom. As the writer recalls her college days, she says that even in 1964, there was a time limit to enter in the dorms. She remembers one of the instances in which she went to stay with one of her male friends and her aunt said that it wasn’t safe- “dangerous”
The author says, the women today do want to enjoy the freedom , but she also adds that these behaviours are really risky. When a woman goes out with a man “unknown” there are risks involved . In fact, the thrill of se-x lies in the dangers that a posited by such acts.
The author asserts that the woman needs to take care and be aware of the dangers that are present in the world. The author says, since these women come from a protected family, they have a perception that everything around them is safe and this particularly happens in case of the white some. She says, that the black women or the Hispanics do not have this “safe” perception and that they are more attached to the reality. Since they come from homes that are pampered due to their safety as they enter colleges, they want to enjoy the freedom.
They feel that when the girl goes berserk being drunk and then up to a guy’s room, there should Nd nothing that should happen to her. The author is angry at such a perception and thinking and says that if the guy should be held responsible for his acts, the girl should also be held responsible somewhere for being so reckless.
The author states that the perception of reality is different from that what is perceived by the white women. The reality is yes, there is an obvious attraction between both the se-xes and this attraction is out of control. She says, campus grievance committee as not very helpful in controlling these attractions. The author admits that she has never been raped but whenever she has been in a dating situation, she has been apt to read the signals. And she says if there was a situation where she would be raped on dating, she would agree that the signals read by her were misread.
