Question
What can movies and television shows communicate to people about gender roles and identities? If you were to put on your cultural anthropologist “hat” and analyze a program, you would think about the messages it conveys regarding gender roles and identities.
For example, “Leave it to Beaver” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SiwgMgBLgo) and other shows of Post-World War II America reinforced certain values.

First, give an explanation of what your chosen program or movie is about.
Next, analyze and discuss the ways in which it reflects, reinforces, or subverts gender constructs.
Explanation / Answer
Being brought up in India, it is more often seen that Girls do household work whereas men go out and earn. Earlier bollywood movies used to show this for years and years that women are working at home, or wearing a saree, being more traditional, raising kids after their marraige - it used to be the happy ending. Now I would discuss about the movie Ki vs Ka - in this they have shown that the boy even though he is well educated he prefers to be at home, be a house husband. Whereas his wife goes out to work. He cooks and maintains the also keep good relations with other neghbour hood females, just like any other Indian housewife does. This is total shift of gender roles. It is also being told that men and women can continue to be themselves even they exchange their activities.Girls and boys have different activities as per their wish.
