1. I personally agree with the family. The only reason is that I respect that they follow their culture and are not influenced by western culture. Being from a different cultural community, I would want my community values to be respected and emphasised in the same manner as they have laid emphasis on their culture.

2. I am concerned that the issue of cultural competence. Since not everyone understands that there are somecultures which may not be employing western medicinal practice in their lifestyle. Though, this may put the child in the danger of getting exposed to the diseases.

3. The ethical code of nurses, supplied by the ANA guides the nurse in following, is supporting exemption from immunisation if there is a medical contraindication or if it hampers with the religious beliefs. Moreover, in this case it is supported by documentation supplied to proper authority in order to support the request. Hence, it is in accordance with the guidelines provided by ANA.

4. The job of the nurse is to provide medical assistance and help to every patient, irrespective of any personal grudges. The nurse has documentation against vaccinations and not against providing necessary medical care. As soon as the nurse notices that the child has been exposed to a vaccine preventable disease, she should be taking the child to the emergency department and informing the physician that the child has not taken vaccines for this particular disease. The physician would guide for treatment.
