Question

ct a field observation and complete the assignment, following these instructions: Plan an act that will give you an inside look at prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination. Revise how you look and act in some way that resembles a population that often faces some form of prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination. Some examples might be wearing all black and walking around in public; dressing in old, dirty clothes and walking around looking at people or lying on a bench in public; or dressing in old or shabby clothes and dining in a nicer restaurant or shopping in an expensive store. Ask for help in some way, such as asking the time, asking for directions, or something else that is easy for another person to answer. Examine your expectations before going on this observation. Report what you think will happen before you go out in public. Identify your feelings before, during, and after the observation. Record these feelings and any changes in emotion that might have occurred during the process. Conduct your field experiment and observation, taking notes that include: What did you experience? Did you experience what you expected? How was it different? How was it the same? How did others react to your behavior? What were some specific reactions that stood out for you? Now that you have experienced this, how has it changed you? What will you do about it? What other behaviors/reactions did you notice? Did you see instances of scapegoating, realistic group conflict, or social dominance orientation?

Explanation / Answer

The most predominant aspect that will stand out in this instance would be social dominance orientation.

Looking at someone in a tattered attire would propel a person to treat them as inferior and automatically place ourselves on the pedestal of superior. These stereotyping and discrimination work on the basis of the overt misrepresentation of groups, and this creates prejudice amongst the members of the group.

There is a need to create awareness as well as tolerance in the masses around.
