200-300 words Please click on the link below and listen to the interview (click on the blue play button top left of page) and read the article titled: Teachers' Expectations Can Influence How Students Perform https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2012/09/18 /161159263/teachers-expectations-can-influence-how- students-perform Then answer the following question: Why do the scholars who study self-fulfilling prophecies believe that educating teachers about bias is not an effective strategy? Based on the NPR interview, what would you recommend administrators do to limit bias and self-fulfilling prophecies that limit students.Explanation / Answer
Educating teachers or administrators is not necessarily an effective strategy in reducing biases of self fulfilling prophecies because it is natural for everyone to hold some type of beliefs and expectations about others, and to completely suspend one’s judgements is not feasible. Furthermore, teachers and educators have to deal with a multiple number of students on a daily basis and so would form opinions of them during their interaction.
In my view, engagement and interaction with students in the class is perhaps the best way in which biases by teachers can be reduced. By encouraging every student in the class to take an active part in the process of learning would not just improve students’ academic performance but also allow teachers to get to know their students better. Also, teachers should expand their perspectives by recognising the existence of multiple forms of intelligence.
