Over the last 50 years, romantic commitments have changed hugely. Earlier “ till death do us apart” was actually practiced, and now, this has become an on,y saying. This is because, the marriages these days break very easily. An observed increase in divorce rates depict that marriages could break if there is any bit of inconvenience within the relationship. These clashes in turn affect the children and their growth and mental peace.

Marriages are now more about freedom. In contrast to the marriages earlier, today, both people want their own space and want to enjoy their space. Today, there is an increase in the acceptance of non marital births and births that have occurred outside marriages. Earlier , marriages were more coercive because of the laid down political and social boundaries. People tend to enjoy the freedom today, from the freedom of choosing the person they want to marry to marrying person of their own gender,
In the earlier days, children outside marriage was unacceptable, but today, not only has the acceptance increased, but there is also an increase in the number of people choosing to do so. Stsrtgjng from celebrities to an average citizen, rather than being considered illegitimate women have started to Embrace this part of their life.
This change has occurred due to the changes in the thought process of the society. People today have started to become and accept things. The society is free of ties and tend to not accept limits that seems to be imposed unreasonably. This change in the trends would be allowing the further generations to enjoy this freedom as well. Children learn what they see. If a child does not see the family values or how a family functions, he would not learn about it.
When there us a distorted family structure, what comes is also distorted. Not only does a family allow the ability to imbue values, they also serve economic functions along with providing the individual a sense of belonging. In a distorted family structure, they lose the sense of belonging and what is left, is a hollowness, and a build up of fictive kin.
