Explanation / Answer

Answer: One important change which I experienced as a stakeholder was while working as a part time employee at a restaurant. The restaurant owner purchased another restaurant nearby and this restaurant served an altogether a different menu. The owner decided to shift some staff to that new restaurant and I was one of them. This shift involved a change in the working environment and required learning new skills. This change brought a change not only for me as an employee but it also affected the customers and the owners. The owners faced a challenge of training the staff and managing a new line of business while the customer service was also affected by this change. I felt that this change was not very well handled by the owners and the managers. There were no attempts to develop a sense of urgency made nor was a guiding coalition or a communication made for the change of vision. There was no future vision created though some attempts were made to remove the obstacles by providing training to us. The owners simply provided us with small training and asked us to join the new restaurant. No short term wins were created neither any attempt was made for building on change and anchoring the change in the culture. Overall the change was not managed professionally. If I had to manage this change I will use the eight step model for enabling this change. I will create a vision for change and at the same time create urgency. I will freely communicate about the change and ask for the suggestions for enabling the change. I will also attempt to create short term wins. Overall I will handle this change professionally and use transformational style of leadership to enable it.
