Explanation / Answer

1.True,Newborn babies are able to see objects clearly that are about 8 to 12 inches away from them. Newborns pay more attention to faces than they do to anything else, probably because most of the world looks blurry and indistinct to a newborn, except the face of the person holding him. Newborns also respond to objects that have contrasting shapes and colors more than they do to objects with a homogenous appearance. (Face perception and processing in early infancy: inborn predispositions and developmental changes;Francesca Simion and Elisa Di Giorgio) 2.Each newborn is unique, born with his own temperament. Some babies are born quiet and watchful while others are hypersensitive. Some have strong social needs, and others are wary of all new faces. There is not a “correct” temperament – but a broad range of temperamental styles.Genes are responsible for the basic internal wiring of a person’s brain and temperament, but it is a baby’s experiences in a responsive environment that enable him to realize his genetic potential. Environments affect a baby so profoundly, that in-born temperament can be reshaped over time. Its a combination of both nature and nurture.(Behavioral Genetics and Child Temperament;Kimberly J. Saudino,2005) 3.Childrens' thoughts and communications are typically egocentric (i.e. about themselves). Egocentrism refers to the child's inability to see a situation from another person's point of view.According to Piaget, the egocentric child assumes that other people see, hear, and feel exactly the same as the child does.Egocentric person tends to see things only through his perspective. They can't see things through eyes of other persons, but just through their own so its different from being selfish or spoilted brat.(Piaget, J. (1951). Egocentric thought and sociocentric thought. J. Piaget, Sociological studies, 270-286.) 4.Many have debated the importance or hindrance that use of baby talk has on a child’s speech and language development. Some parents believe that baby talk is an important first step in teaching a child to talk and some believe that using baby talk limits a child’s language comprehension. While modeling adult language is beneficial to a child’s speech and language development, baby talk has withstood the test of time and been a useful tool in creating a bond between an infant and their parent. This attachment helps a child learn to develop relationships with others throughout life. Erik Thiessen's (2005) study titled 'Adult's Baby Talk helps infants learn to speaR appeared in the journal of Science Daily describes as adults feel silly when they talk to babies, but those babies learn to speak sooner if adults talk to them like infants instead of other adults. He found that adults speak to infants using short, simple sentences coupled with higher pitch and exaggerated intonation. His research reveals that infant-directed speech also helps infants learnwords more quickly than normal adult's speech.
