For many, productivity, success, and earning power are greatest in middle age, but occupational success may become far less alluring than it once was (Feldman, 2015). This is true for those who have not achieved the career success that they had hoped for due to family and other life things that have come up. Younger adults focus more on abstract and future oriented concerns, such as opportunities for advancement or the possibility of recognition and approval (Feldman, 2015). As for middle aged employees, they care more about the here and now qualities of work and are also more concerned with pay, working conditions and specific policies. Younger people don’t really care about any of that, they are more focused on getting where they want to be at all costs. Younger adults who don’t like their jobs or just simply don’t care just quit and move on, as for middle adults, they find more satisfaction in their jobs the longer they stick things out. Also older workers have fewer opportunities to change jobs, they learn to live with what they have and accept that this is the best are likely to get, which translates into their satisfaction (Feldman, 2015). Some personality and cognitive changes that might contribute are people become to warn out or mentally drained from whether it be work or from family life outside of the job. Burnout can occur when workers experience dissatisfaction, disillusionment, frustration and weariness from their jobs (Feldman, 2015). This can occur to those who once were the most driven or are needed in high demands to their jobs. People become over committed to their jobs and after a while not feel like they are even making a dent in more social problems and becoming disappointed. Another reason can be that people lose their jobs and becomes very difficult of how they could work so hard all these years and then they feel like it was all for nothing. People then become depressed, anxious or even irritable and their self confidence just goes out the window. Middle aged people tend to stay unemployed for longer period of times due to their age and can be discriminated against and it messes with peoples outlook on their entire life up until this point and how hard they have worked and they don’t want to have to start all over again. I overall agree with the above mentioned assage. Our work, organisation concepts changes as we grow. The main factor behind this change is the change of our needs. For a young man, no body is dependent on him hence his work needs are more like id as per Freud, he/she wants to try something different than ritual. Those forces are strong. As the person fmgroqs in middle age he has family and other responsibilities. Hence quitting job might seem a risk, so the person adjusts, compromises with his own cravings or Id as far as older people are concerned, spending time is more important. Because around 30-35 years a person is into job and suddenly leaving and having nothing to do seems as the greatest fear. So they do the job just to occupy themselves without keeping any expectations.
