Question
The following chart was prepared at the beginning of a HRM (Human Resource Management) crash hiring project. The project begins with two activities: Assemble interview team (A) and Budget resources (B). The duration, in days, follows the letter of each activity. What is the critical path? Which activities should be monitored more closely?
At the end of the first week, it was noted that activity A was completed in 2.5 days but activity B required 4.5 days. What impact does this have on the project? Are the same activities critical?
C1 12 A4 Start End G3 E4 1 U1 F1Explanation / Answer
Q1) The various paths are -
ACI - 4+1+2 = 7 days
ADGJ - 4+5+3+1 = 13 days
BEGJ - 3+4+3+1 = 11 days
BFHJ - 3+1+5+1 = 10 days
The critical path is ADGJ
Q2) The activities that need to be monitored closely include A, D, G and J
Q3) Considering A = 2.5 days, B = 4.5 days => below are the various activities -
ACI = 2.5+1+2 = 5.5 days
ADGJ = 2.5+5+3+1 = 11.5 days
BEGJ = 4.5+4+3+1 = 12.5 days
BFHJ = 4.5+1+5+1 = 11.5 days.
With the change in the completion duration of A and B, now the critical path is BEGJ with 12.5 days duration and the critical activities are B,E,G and J.
