Question
Book: The Story of Psychology
Applied Psychology is the use of scientific knowledge to better the human condition. Psychology has been applied to many areas over the years- education, business, politics, law, health, sustainability, and more.
Questions: Let’s use this discussion to consider the good and the bad of applied psychology. Consider all the applications of psychology described in the chapter (and my lecture notes) and think about what you’ve seen working in your own life and out in society. Where have you seen psychology applied to its best advantage to promote measurable positive change? And where have you seen it used against us (in a deleterious manner)?
Explanation / Answer
Best use- The best use of psychology happens at the counselling clinics, where people are treated for their psychological problems. Their problems are sorted and in some cases can be life saving too. It touches upon lives and has huge impact to the family.
Bad use- At offices, the psychological techniques are used against people to manipulate and make them do things which they dislike. Another worst use, is influencing people with speeches, manipulating their thoughts to involve in terrorism or riot activities. Also, the politicians know the psychology of the general mass and use it to win the elections.
