Do they suffer from any of the negative physical or psychological effects of heavy drinking? Do they engage in more risky behaviors when they drink? Previous to reading this chapter, did you think they had a problem?Explanation / Answer
Before reading this chapter, there was a generalized concept that all who drink alcohol regularly or during fixed intervals heavily were called alcoholics. But now the difference is clear alcoholics are dependent on alcohol and they need alcohol on daily basis because with it they are unable to carry out their daily works. On the other problem drinkers are those who can abstain themselves from alcohol without any detox or rehabilitation, but, when they drink, they drink heavily and their behavior causes trouble or problem for others and themselves while they are drunk.
The owner of an organization were I worked formerly, was a problem drinkers. He also, was the MD of the organization. He was not an alcoholic, but when he drink, would take up heavy amount of alcoho. This habit caused him troubles, as it made him skip the work for days when he was in such condition, as he was unable to perform well under the influence of alcohol. Normally he was a pleasant natured, but heavy drinking altered his behavior, he would become rude and harsher to everybody around him, this caused tensions and conflicts with family members, and also, if he comes to work place he would use harsh words and behave harshly with his subordinates. He was not allowed to take up driving during these conditions as he was the most rash driver during these times, and had injured himself and several others by the accidents he had caused, and fortunately no body lost their lives or had severe injuries.
