Explanation / Answer
My Lai Massacre happened during the Vietnam war, when the American soldiers openly fired at the residents of My Lai village in Vietnam. The people of the village were women, children, elderly men and women. The people were unarmed and didn't resisted during their killing. The one non-psychological factor that can be used to explain this massacre is Obedience. The army men simply carried out the orders of the authority figure, their officer, without any deliberation of their own while conducting this massacre. They were told that the residents were sympathizers of Viet Congress and hence, they must be killed, and they carried out the orders.
Militaries and government should promote deliberation by acknowledge the efforts of those individuals publicly, who had deliberatly disobeyed the authorities and saved lives of innocent people during any military operations. Army should be educated to think critically and they should be encouraged to use their awareness regarding any command of their officials, when it comes to the lives of innocent people. They should be encouraged and trained to evaluate every command of their officials, so that they are prevented from blindly following the orders of their officers.
