(Answer) The Second Amendment: The Right to Bear Arms - A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
In the above amendment, the term “well-regulated militia” is generally one that is easily ignored or rather misconstrued to mean something else. A major purpose of the Second Amendment was to prevent Congress from disarming the State militias. The phrasing of the Amendment was directly influenced by the American Revolutionary experience.
Noting the consequences of misunderstood phrasing within the legislation, this becomes more than a lesson about guns but rather about ambiguous laws in a society. When the fundamental laws are loosely described, there can be loopholes, misunderstandings and other issues.
The issue with an outdated and poorly outlined amendment is not that it can be viewed as an allowance to own guns but that it isn’t regularly updated. It isn’t only the gun law but, any law that causes life-threatening issues can and must be able to be regulated and updated by government parties. This would not only help the people but, also keep the government officials from taking advantage of such laws.
Secondly, America is still a country where arms can easily be purchased. Gun ownership and psychological evaluations of these owners should be supplementary procedures for as long as gun-control is still not completely achieved.
Even without guns, it is essential that such members of society, who are in need of help, get the assistance that is prescribed to them. There might be several nuances and personal situations where mental health care are absolutely essential for the proper functioning of the society which is made of civic members.
Therefore, the best way to support the people you represent is to make sure that they are taken care of with the things that they truly need to help build a progressive community. Mental Healthcare is just one of those essential tools.
The fundamental point to remember when tackling the issue of the second amendment is that one should not only be able to curb the symptom but also cure the disease. The symptom here is the guns, the disease here is not updating old laws that have issues, lack of focus on mental health and other problems.
