1.3 Upon entering a dark room from exposure to light outside, our eyes will experience the process of dark adaption where there will be greater sensitivity to the continued stimulation by light and gradually our eyes will adjust and become more sensitive to the darkness in the room.

Typically, this would lead to a dilation of our pupils and changes in the rods and cones of our retinas where the rod cells would be sensitive to form and motion when we move our hands, and the cone cells will not be stimulated which means that we would not be able to detect the colour of the walls or our our own hands. And So in darkness, our rods will make perception of motion possible while the cones would be inhibited and not trigger perception of colours.
