Explanation / Answer

The brain is overall divided into three major parts, namely: Hindbrain, Midbrain and Forebrain. The hindbrain comprises of the medulla pons and cerebellum of the brain. These are structures that have varied functions and are indespensable for the overall functioning of the brain. The medulla is situated next to te spinal cord and it controls all the involuntary functions of the body such as blood flow, breathing (respiration), etc. Pons is responsible for activities such as sleeping and waking. Cerebellum controls the balance and coordination of movement in the body. Impairment to medulla can lead to poor muscle tone or difficulty in motor control or activity. The hindbrain is situated at the backside of the brain as the name suggests and has different and refined structures as mentioned above.
