One of the most important factors is that Jesus never founded Christianity but he only pointed out the hypocrisy present in the Jewish religion in terms of people and practices. He fought the Romans because he was a Jewish leader who wanted to redeem his people from slavery. Christianity stops the importance of Jewish religion and practices with the old testament while Jews don't accept the New Testament. People are introduced to Jesus as Good, so for them Christianity is more important than Judaism.
I don't think Christianity and Judaism are same religion because Jews don't consider Jesus as God and they are still waiting for the Messiah but for Christians, the Messiah has already come and that's Jesus. This primary contradiction will keep both the religions separate.
