mathxl.com MGMT 328 T&Th; 9:30 Spring 2018 Ceirra Homework: HW 2: Chapter 4 core: 0.4 of 1 pt 3 of 9 (7 complete) Problem 4.8 Daily high temperatures in St. Louis for the last week were as follows: 95, 92, 93,94,95, 88, 95 (yesterday). a) The high temperature for today using a 3-day moving average = 927 degrees round your response to one decimal place). b) The high temperature for today using a 2-day mo ng average = 91.5 degrees round your response to one decimal place c) The mean absolute deviation based on a 2-day moving average- degrees ound your response to one decir al place

Explanation / Answer

95, 92, 93,94,95,88,95

Moving point averages are calculated by taking the data obtained for that period divided by the number of considered period.

For example: a 3 day moving average is calculated by summing up the first three data and dividing it by the number 3.

So you have arrived at the first two answers correctly.

Now to calculate the 2 day moving average mean deviation :

First you calculate the mean for the given data which is:

(95+92+ 93+94+95+88+95)/7

= 93.14

Now calculate the 2 day moving averages which is nothing but:

(95+ 92)/ 2=93.5

(93.5+93)/2=93.25

(93.25+94)/2=93.62

(93.62+95)/2=94.31

(94.31+88)/2=91.155

(91.55+95)/2=93.275

Now take the mean of 2 day moving average obtained above and minus it with the total mean value. for example:

Therefore the mean absolute deviation is 0.265 or 0.3

93.5-93.14 0.36 93.25-93.14 0.11 93.62-93.14 0.48 94.31-93.14 1.17 91.15-93.14 -1.99 93.275-93.14 0.135
