A. vestibulocochlear (VIII) B. hypoglossal (XII) C. trochlear (IV) D. facial (VI) E. trigeminal (V) Which of the following is true about the pia mater? A. it is functional unit of the nervous system B. it is most superficial and thickest meninge C. it is the middle meninge D. it is the meninge that bound tightly to brain and spinal cord E. it separates dura mater from periosteumExplanation / Answer
The resting membrane potential or the local potential refers to the state when the cell is at rest. When stimulus is received, the cell starts to fluctuate around its resting membrane potential until it reaches a threshold potential. When the threshold potential is reached, the cells starts the depolarization phase during which sodium ions are actively transported into the cell. After reaching the peak electrical activity, depolarization phase begins during which the potassium channels open and potassium ions are lost. The membrane potential becomes more negative than the resting membrane potential and reaches a hyper polarised state.
Thus in the given diagram,
6) A represents local potential
7) C represents repolarization
8) Sodium ions enter the cell during B phase
9) Potassium ions leave the neuron during the phase C
10) D represents threshold potential
