Cellular membrane transport experiments were performed for 3 different substances--X, Y, and Z. At time zero, substance-free cells were rapidly immersed in an extracellular fluid (ECF) containing various concentrations of the substances, and the increase in the intracellular fluid concentration of each substance was monitored as a function of time. Four different ECF concentrations were tested for each substance: A = 1 mmol/L, B = 2 mmol/L, C = 3 mmol/L, D = 4 mmol/L.
