(1 Mark) What is odd about how the hair cells mentioned above depolarise in terms of the ions responsible?Explanation / Answer
Q1. Eating carrots and other yellow or red vegetables such as tomato, squash, pumpkins, corn, spinach and broccoli etc. are important for eyesight, because- all these contain beta carotene( precursor of vit A), luetin(anti-oxidants),zeaxanthin(naturally occurring pigments of plants) , flavonoids etc. thus lowering the risks of cataracts, molecular degeneration ,protects retina from harmful rays of suns(zeaxanthin )etc.
Q2. There are two types of photoreceptor cells in eye- rods and cones.
Rods- sensitive to light and help in low light vision or scotopic vision. Cones are absent from fovea centralis while they spread over in retina.
Cones- activated by brighter light and responsible for color vision. Cones are populated in central fovea while significantly reduced in number from central fovea.
