You currently work for a retail store that carries basic household goods, some groceries, and health and beauty products. The store is located in the small community (approximately 5,000 total residents) in which you live and is looking to expand its operations in some way.

For this assignment, you are required to develop a major project proposal to be undertaken by your employer. You may decide to expand your product offerings or open an additional store in an adjacent community, for example.

Resources: Identify the resources necessary to complete the project.

Risk analysis: Identify the major risks associated with undertaking this project. How likely is it that these risks will occur? How will the project be impacted if these risks occur?

Project title : expansion of operations.

Project manager :

Project rationale : the store is situated in a small community. Residents here are usually demand for a place where they can get each and every product of need. One roof under which all their necessitues can be fulfilled. Our store deals in household products but the range is small. We can use this demand as opportunity to expand our operations by expansion of our product range.

Goal definition : the goal of this project would be conversion of the store into a small departmental store with A to Z range of items required frequently like clothes, fmcg, edibles, snacks, accessories, scissors, and other such tools, etc.

Objective definition : benefits - this expansion would help the store to reach out to greater customers and fulfill all their needs at one place thus, increasing volume of sales. It would help create a brand name for the store. Would help cut competition and provide greater loyalty. Cost - this expansion would require some cost. It would require time to get suppliers for the new range, built contacts, expand area for accommodation of new range, publicity, transportation, etc. On an average it would be a matter of a week to establish the range but a matter of a month for implementation.

Resources : resources needed would include time, contacts, money, land area for store expansion, social media for promotion, and a good customer base.

Risk analysis : risk associated would be shortage of funds, lack of credibility with suppliers, lack of contacts, no land for expansion. The chances of their occurance are not so often. But if they occur they might affect the planning and would require some changes. Moreover it might slow down the implementation of the project.
