What is the situation with a2 receptors and arteriole constriction? I have it in my notes that a2 stimulation in the CNS inhibits SANS outflow, which allows it to be used for uncontrolled HTN without a baroreflex. However, I also have in my notes that a2 receptors in arteriole, renal, and systemic veins lead to constriction. Isn't that the opposite of what you would expect? What is the situation with a2 receptors and arteriole constriction? Both are true however both the actions are mediated by different subtypes of alpha 2 adrenergic receptors. a-2 receptors have three subtypes- a2 -A, a2-B and a2-C.

a2-A reduce the SANS outflow when stimulated whereas a2-B increase the SANS outflow leading to vasoconstritction,
