Explanation / Answer

2) The softball player has pain in the mid thigh region. The pain increases when she tried to raise her thigh forward. She also complained of pain when her thigh is stretched backward while her knee is bent. All these features suggest an injury to quadriceps muscle. Quadriceps are present in the anterior compartment of thigh. It causes flexion of hip and extension of knee. When the knee is bent, the quadriceps muscle becomes straightened and stretching of thigh backwards will cause pain. Therefore, the answer for this question is option c (quadriceps strain).
