Differentiate b/w intrinsic and extrinsic control of VSMC . Describe arteriolar control of the heart vs. the kidney. . Describe the compensatory changes that protect the maintenance of MAP How does volume regulate pressure and vice versa?Explanation / Answer
1) CO is the cardiac output. It is measured by the amount of blood pumped by the heart per minute. It is the product of stroke volume and heart rate. Stroke volume is the volume of blood pumped by the heart per beat.
CO = stroke volume x heart rate
MAP is the mean arterial pressure. It is calculated by adding one third of pulse pressure to the diastolic pressure. Pulse pressure is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressures.
MAP = diastolic pressure +1/3 pulse pressure
TPR stands for total peripheral resistance. It is the resistance offered by the systemic vasculature to the flow of blood. It is calculated by dividing mean arterial pressure by cardiac output.
TPR = MAP/CO
