Ans a: Cross-section study .

Ans b: Cross-section study or analysis is a type of observation which analyzes the data collected from a population or a subset at a specific point in time or at a defined time. It just describes the frequency and distribution of health related exposures or outcomes in a defined population. It tells the occurrence of chronic conditions and provides the solutions for the cause of disease condition. It involves individual data collection which includes the questions regarding the past and depends on the data collected for other purposes.

Ans c: Cross-sectional studies suggest a positive trend in the relation between the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and overweight or obesity. Since cross-sectional studies are quick, easy and are also economical compared to any other studies. As in this study there is no follow up. It can determine the prevalence of risk factors for disease in a population and also the frequency of prevalent cases of disease in a defined population. The cross-sectional studies can be regulated at regular intervals to determine changes in risk factors and changes the frequency of occurrence of a disease in populations over time. And also the cross-sectional study be used to compare the occurrence of disease in different populations which can help to formulate hypotheses about the causes of disease.

Ans d: Routine data may not be designed to answer the specific question. Cross-sectional studies measure only the occurrence and cannot measure the incidence or newly diagnosed of a disease.This causes the study to be biased towards including patients with chronic forms of a disease. It is also not suitable for the investigation of rare diseases like cancer. And also if the frequency of a disease is low it becomes necessary to recruit an extraordinarily large sample to take into account of some cases of the disease. In most case-control studies collect specially intended data including data fields designed to allow the hypothesis of interest to be tested. But in issues which when involve a personal feelings the specific questions may be a source of bias and such bias may be less in routinely collected statistics.
