The organisation that i am familiar with and worked for is Jp Morgan Chase.
JP Morgan Chase is one of the largest retail and investment banks in the United States. Its a product of a merger between the Investment Bank JP Morgan (originally founded by James Peirpoint Morgan Senior) and US Retail Bank Chase Manhattan. The retail or the consumer side of JP Morgan provides the following services for their customers.

Enhanced Security Domains & User Authentication and Access Control
The intranet is generally accessed using an SSO login or a single sign on access and then for each individual internal application, employees could set up multiple user id's and password. This ensures that even if the SSO Log in is compromised. core application are still safe and secure. Access to the database needs to be protected too. A good SSO login will prevent outsiders from accessing secure information .
Protecting Key database assets
The key assets in the the Database such as the details like identification , address, telephone and mobile phone numbers, credit and debit card information for recurring memberships. Key financials such as accounts payable and accounts receivable, balance sheets, income statement, profit and loss statements, employee and vendor payroll, employee information. The purpose of an IT department in an non IT organisation is to support other business functions and their core competencies by creating internal business systems and softwares that facilitate seamless functioning of those businesses within an organisation. The reason why the IT department within an organisation develops a strategic plan is because the purpose of the IT department of an organisation should be to fit into the overall organisational strategy and the strategic planning of a firm. Security is a key component in developing an IT strategic plan.

Hardware
Thin Client Computing are power efficient desktops that are connected to the cloud or a central server to access data or to run applications. These computers generally do not have great processors or even storage for that matter of fact , however they're always connected to the cloud or an internal server. Thin Client computers are mostly used as a point of access but information and core computing takes place at the server. Thin Client Computing are used by JP Morgan Chase in almost all of its ofshore Cost Centers.
It also uses Azure, Amazon or AWS, GCP or private cloud for cloud storage services.
Software
JP Morgan Chase uses Windows Server Platform to manage it's internal architecture and servers. JP Morgan Chase also uses a lot Visual Basic for training and simulation of enterprise software for their day to day operations.
